The Tatua Co-operative Dairy Company Limited was formed in 1914 by a group of just ten farmers, and manufactured cheddar cheese.   Over time the Co-operative grew and Tatua now has over 130 farmer shareholders.
 
During the 1970's it became clear that science and technology could assist Tatua to become different to most other New Zealand dairy co-operatives and help maintain Tatua's independence at a time when the industry was consolidating and merging to form very large operations. 

Today, Tatua manufactures many specialist nutritional ingredients and a range of quality nutritious food products.
 
Tatua Foods is one of the operating divisions within the Co-operative, commencing in 1978, with the development of an aerosol cream range under the Dairy Whip® brand.
  
Today, in addition to aerosol creams, Tatua Foods process a range of extended shelf life food and dairy products in sterilised sachets, pouches and bags for retail, foodservice and industrial applications.
